Welcome to the Northshore Islamic Association (NSIA), your community hub for spiritual growth, education and social activities. Based in the North Shore, Auckland. NSIA is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for Muslims of all ages.
Our Mission
Mission Statement
NSIA’s mission is to empower a thriving community that is deeply rooted in its Islamic Identity, by providing high-quality services, through organized teamwork, dedicated spaces, and strategic partnerships. Our centre aims to accommodate or the needs of the rapidly growing Muslim community of the North Shore in Auckland, New Zealand. This includes a large prayer hall to support worshippers during the 5 daily prayers, Jummah and Taraweeh prayers; an Islamic educational for Muslims and non-Muslims; and activities and programs which connect the youth to the masjid and facilitate dawah across the community.

Ahmed Youssef has a diverse professional background in Tourism, Education, Graphic Design, IT, and Accounting. He had also liaised with government agencies such as MSD and IRD to run community programs in his capacity as treasurer in another non-profit organization in the past. His past post as a Lecturer in university gave him valuable experience dealing and interacting with youth. Currently, he is working as IT & Account Administrator in an Accounting Firm.

Ahmed Youssef started his volunteering and community service engagement shortly after arriving in New Zealand in 1995. Realizing the urgent need for a multifunction Islamic centre, he was involved in a variety of fundraising activities and programs. As a founding member of NSIA, he was involved in planning the strategies and the growth of the organization.
Role and Responsibilities within the OrganizationFrom 2018 till 2023, Ahmed Youssef held the role of Treasurer for NSIA. In 2023, he was voted as President. In 2023, he was entrusted as the project manager of the new NSIA HUB construction and renovation. As CFO of NSIA, he is also involved in most of the activities run by NSIA.

Mohamed Hussien brings over two decades of expertise in management and technology transformation across various sectors, including Health, Telecommunications, and Agriculture. His career spans multiple leadership roles in multinational organizations and government agencies, where he has successfully led major delivery initiatives.
Educational BackgroundWith a strong foundation in Communication and Electronics Engineering, Mohamed pursued further education and completed an Executive MBA (Master of Business Administration) from the University of Auckland in 2023. He has also undergone specialized Islamic training, including courses on Aqeedah (Islamic creed) and refuting misconceptions about Islam.
Volunteering and Community EngagementBeyond his professional career, Mohamed has over 25 years of dedicated service in the fields of Da'wa, community development, and capacity building, especially within engineering and academic sectors. He served as the elected Chair of the IEEE Youth Section in Egypt for six years, during which time he played a key role in fostering the next generation of engineers and leaders. In addition to his work with NSIA, Mohamed actively supports other Islamic and community organizations in achieving their missions, offering guidance, collaboration, and strategic insights to strengthen the collective impact on the Muslim community.
Role in the North Shore Islamic AssociationAs one of the founding members of the North Shore Islamic Association (NSIA) in Auckland, Mohamed has been instrumental in strengthening the bonds within the Muslim community and reinforcing their connection to Islamic values. In his current role as Managing Director, he oversees all operations and strategic initiatives, working with his team to ensure NSIA has a sustainable, positive impact.
Strategic FocusMohamed is committed to not only achieving financial stability for the North Shore Islamic Association (NSIA) but also to developing Islamic frameworks that support the building of a strong Muslim character. His vision is to foster a community that embodies the values of the Prophetic Madinah model, where spiritual, social, and economic development are integrated to create a cohesive and thriving Muslim community. By guiding NSIA’s initiatives with this vision, he aims to empower Muslims in Auckland to live their faith fully and contribute positively to society.

Weaam Bassiouni holds a Bachelor of Global Studies, majoring in Global Environment and Sustainable Development, with a certificate of languages. With over five years of experience, she has worked extensively in community engagement, project management, and event planning. She has organized conferences, camps, holiday programs, and more for organizations such as the Islamic Women's Council of New Zealand (IWCNZ) and the North Shore Islamic Association (NSIA).
Commitment to the Organization’s MissionWeaam’s motivation stems from a deep commitment to her faith and a passion for community service. Her involvement with the community is driven by a desire to provide safe and nurturing spaces for young Muslim women to thrive spiritually and socially within a western world, so that they grow up being strong and proud in their faith while also excelling in their personal life.
Role and Responsibilities within the OrganizationAs the Female Youth Events Coordinator, Weaam is responsible for overseeing all female youth-focused events at NSIA. This includes conceptualizing and executing initiatives that focus on the 10 characteristics of a successful Muslim. Her role involves working with her team to provide not only logistical planning but also ensuring these events foster Islamic values and strong sisterhood bonds.

Sheikh Alaa Mubarak is an Islamic Preacher and Fatwa Committee Member, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif (Egypt)
Professional ExperienceSh. Alaa brings over 18 years of experience in Islamic preaching, Fatwa, and community leadership. His career includes extensive service at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in Egypt, where he has been an active member of the Fatwa Committee and a leading Islamic preacher. He also plays a crucial role in the Muslim community in New Zealand, where he serves as an Imam and a religious advisor at the North Shore Islamic Association (NSIA).
Educational BackgroundSh. Alaa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Dawah from Al-Azhar University in Egypt, graduating in 2005 with a very good grade. He has further expanded his expertise through specialized courses in Islamic Legal Sciences, Fatwa, and Halal certification, ensuring his continuous professional development in the field of Islamic jurisprudence and community guidance.
Volunteering and Community EngagementWith a strong commitment to Islamic Da'wah and social welfare, Sh. Alaa has been actively involved in various community initiatives. He served as chairman of the Sunnah Revival Association in Egypt from January 2012 to December 2014, where he led efforts to revive and promote the teachings of the Sunnah in the local community. Additionally, he participated in voluntary arbitration and reconciliation efforts in family courts under the Egyptian Ministry of Justice, helping resolve family disputes through Islamic principles. His dedication extends to providing religious guidance, delivering sermons, conducting Islamic lectures and research, and fostering spiritual growth and community cohesion.
Role in the North Shore Islamic AssociationSince joining the NSIA, Alaa has been instrumental in fostering the spiritual growth of the Muslim community in New Zealand. As the current Imam, he leads the five daily prayers, delivers Friday sermons, provides fatwas and religious counselling, and oversees Islamic educational programs, ensuring that the values and teachings of Islam are effectively communicated to all members of the community. He continues to contribute to the community's development in the Da'wa field through his contribution to halal certification, advisory roles, and efforts that enhance the overall well-being of the community.
